Awareness Films

Awareness Films image Awareness Films was started by writer/director James Callner in the early eighties. It is now a perfect fit for AFOCD. Our films are educational with a dramatic edge that will make you cry-happy. We have found that the quickest way to opening your heart to educate your mind is through the medium of film. In addition, we take our films on the lecture circuit, showing the film followed by an educational presentation about OCD and related disorders.

The American Psychiatric Association, The International Health and Medical Film Festival, The United States International Film Festival, The National Educational Film Festival and many others have honored us. We are always grateful and amazed at the recognition we receive.

We have just completed "In the Shoes of Christopher", a film about a bully and a boy with OCD. Its theme extends to the intolerance that is in our world today, and how to transcend that intolerance with compassion. "In the Shoes..." was a seven-year effort to raise the funding and produce the film. We know it will help others understand OCD at a deep level.

Our films are distributed to schools, television, associations, therapists, health care providers, and to you. Check out our individual film pages; use the handy order form to order one or more films, or click the PayPal button at the bottom of the page associated with each film. (Sorry - you can only order one item at a time with PayPal right now.)

We feel so good about "In the Shoes of Christopher " that we are excited to continue the "In the Shoes of..." theme in the form of a series of films. We hope to produce films that help others understand and feel compassion for many disorders, including autism, ADHD, depression, schizophrenia, Tourettes Syndrome, physical disabilities, and the like, by spending some time, via film, "in the shoes of...".

If you are interested in helping us raise funding for this series or get involved please contact us. To walk a few steps in another's shoes is to begin the process of understanding, empathy and compassion.

Also, we want you to know we can make a film for you or your organization. It takes some patience and assertive funding and/or granting efforts to make any length film, but the impact can last years and years. Please contact us if you want to collaborate with us in financing and creating a film or video for your needs.
